College of Micronesia-FSM Showcases Innovation and Leadership at MoodleMoot Philippines 2026

The College of Micronesia-FSM (COM-FSM) proudly participated in MoodleMoot Philippines 2026, one of the region’s premier conferences dedicated to digital learning, educational technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and innovative teaching practices. The event brought together educators, technology leaders, researchers, and Moodle experts from across the Asia-Pacific region to share ideas and explore the future of education.
The COM-FSM delegation was led by Mr. Dhiraj Bhartu and included Prof. Mayleen Wichep, Dr. George Mangonon, Prof. Marlene Mangonon, Prof. Penina Tulensru, Prof. Jocelyn Pretrick, Prof. Belinda Welles, Mr. Joseph Felix Jr., and Mr. Fiji Phillip, who represented the college in a series of workshops, conference sessions, networking activities, and presentations.
Engaging with Global Leaders in Digital Education

A major highlight of the conference was the opportunity for the COM-FSM delegation to meet with Dr. Martin Dougiamas, Founder of Moodle and Head of Research and Development at Moodle HQ. Dr. Dougiamas delivered the conference keynote presentation on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in education and shared Moodle’s vision for the future of digital learning.
During discussions with Dr. Dougiamas and other Moodle leaders, the COM-FSM delegation explored emerging trends in learning management systems, arti
ficial intelligence integration, student success analytics, cybersecurity, and innovative approaches to online and blended learning. These conversations provided valuable insights that will help inform the college’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives.

Transforming Learning with Moodle at COM-FSM
On June 19, Prof. Mayleen Wichep presented
“Transforming Learning with Moodle at COMFSM: Converging Learning & Labor: Designing Real-World Education.” Her presentation highlighted how COM-FSM utilizes Moodle to connect academic learning with workforce development, emphasizing authentic learning experiences that prepare students for real-world challenges and employment opportunities.
Prof. Wichep showcased innovative teaching approaches that leverage Moodle to strengthen student engagement, practical skill development, and meaningful learning outcomes
Building an Intelligent, Secure, and Culturally Grounded Moodle Ecosystem
Later in the conference, Mr. Dhiraj Bhartu delivered a presentation titled “Building an Intelligent, Secure, and Culturally Grounded Moodle Ecosystem at the College of Micronesia-FSM.” 
His presentation highlighted COM-FSM’s strategic vision for integrating artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data governance, and culturally responsive educational practices within the college’s Moodle environment. The session demonstrated how COM-FSM is leveraging technology to support student success while preserving and promoting the unique cultural values and educational priorities of the Federated States of Micronesia.
Participants expressed strong interest in the college’s innovative approach to balancing technological advancement with cultural relevance and institutional sustainability.
Strengthening COM-FSM’s Digital Future

Participation in MoodleMoot Philippines 2026 reflects COM-FSM’s commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, and technology innovation.
